It’s our first snow day this year! I really don’t like winter, but snow is so pretty, and we haven’t gotten much so far this winter, so I’m so excited to see it! The kids are all home from school, even my hubs doesn’t have to work! In honor of this Winter Storm Niko, here’s 7 ways to make a snow day special!
1. Hot cocoa
Hot cocoa with breakfast. Hot cocoa after playing outside. Hot cocoa with extra marshmallows. Hot cocoa with mountains of whipped cream. Lots and lots of hot cocoa!
(Lucky for me I have over 100 packets of hot cocoa thanks to some pretty stellar deals!!)
2. Make a blanket fort
I’m not even going to pretend I don’t love a good blanket fort, and we have an insane amount of blankets so our forts can get pretty intricate! I love watching the boys crawl in with their favorite toys and listening to them play.
3. Bake something
Children love to help bake, and it’s a fun way to sneak in some learning when they’re home from school. Older kids can measure and mix, younger ones can count and pour! Get everyone involved! And if you’re like me, you may have to take a few deep breaths because “Oh my god they’re making a mess!”
I like to pick out a movie on Netflix the kids may not have found on their own, make some popcorn (and more hot cocoa!) and snuggle up on the couch. A surprise movie with popcorn is always more special!
5. Board games
We don’t usually have a lot of time for board games during the week after everyone has done their homework, had dinner and showered. Even on weekends, we’re usually running errands, catching up on cleaning or doing some weekend family activity. Snow days are perfect for pulling out the board games and playing for hours!
6. Go outside
Obviously, when there’s snow, there’s so much fun to be had outside! Building snowmen, sledding, snowball fights, my kids are even content shoveling the snow off of the sidewalks!
7. Stay inside
My personal favorite, watch your husband and kids play outside in the snow from inside with your warm, fuzzy blanket and a cup of coffee.
Aaaaaaah….silence and caffeine…. 🙂
Enjoy your snow day if you’re lucky enough to have one!!
